MLK Jr. Quotes

Since today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I thought I would share some quotes from this amazing man, and my opinion on a few things.

MLK Jr fought for equality. He fought so that all people would be on the same playing field when it came to the opportunities of life. He was not trying to have the "colored" community become higher then the white community. He just wanted it to be the people's community.

It is hard to understand how people can complain about being treated unfairly, when this PC world we live in now has many organizations that give free college money to African Americans or other groups for different ethnic groups.....yet, if a group came out and said that they were only going to give college money to 

Caucasians, then there would be a huge uproar about that group being racist. I do not believe this is what MLK Jr. wanted.

I honestly believe that he wanted everyone to be equal and fair. He wanted everyone to live in peace. He wanted everyone to put aside their hate, and i mean hate from both sides, and have love for their fellow man.

I hope everyone takes today to evaluate places in your life where you can show more love towards your fellow man. And please, take some inspiration from the following MLK Jr. quotes.

The little things...

There are many times when life is just speeding passed us and we don't stop to remember those moments that make us who we are. We get so caught up in the day to day that we don't take the time to reflect on choices that have got us to where we are.

The moments that shape may be small to some, and in the big picture of our own lives, these moments normally are rather small. Something that has had an effect on how you look at life could have been something so small as a hug, or a story that someone told you.

I remember when I was little and I had a bad dream. I went out to the living room where my Mom was and told her about my dream. At the time, I was in little league baseball, and to cheer me up, my Mom told me that when I woke up from a bad dream, or had a negative thought that would keep me awake, to think about playing baseball with Jesus.

Now as an adult, this would probably do very little to comfort me if this was told to me today. But as a kid, that had a major impact on me. It was a small thought that was placed in my head, that has had an impact on how I look at life. And it wasn't even the story that had the impact. It was the emotion behind the story. The meaning of what my Mom was trying to share.

I believe the meaning on one level was just for my Mom to love me and calm her child's fears. On another level, whether intentional or not, I think there was a meaning to give up our problems to Jesus.

I try to live very much by that. Whenever life is weighing down on me, and when the deck seems stacked against me, I try to pause and give it all to Jesus. In a way, I still imagine playing baseball with Jesus. =D

Whenever life is bringing you down, I encourage you to pause and reflect on the little things that have affected your life. Remember that much needed hug, remember that much needed word of encouragement. You never know when that experience could give you insight and solace into what is currently bringing you down.

She spends $15,000 and feels pretty good about the results.

On her way home, she stops at a newsstand to buy a newspaper.

Before leaving, she says to the clerk, 'I hope you don't mind my asking, but how old do you think I am


'About 32,' is the reply.'

'Nope! I'm exactly 50,' the woman says happily

A little while later she goes into McDonald's and asks the counter girl the very same question..

The girl replies, 'I'd guess about 29.'

The woman replies with a big smile, 'Nope, I'm 50.'

Now she's feeling really good about herself. She stops in a drug store on her way down the street.

She goes up to the counter to get some mints and asks the clerk this burning question.

The clerk responds, 'Oh, I'd say 30.'

Again she proudly responds, 'I'm 50, but thank you!'

While waiting for the bus to go home, she asks an old man waiting next to her the same question.

He replies, 'Lady, I'm 78 and my eyesight is going. Although, when I was young there was a sure-fire way to tell how old a woman was.

It sounds very forward, but it requires you to let me put my hands under your bra.



Then, and only then can I tell you EXACTLY how old you are.'

They wait in silence on the empty street until her curiosity gets the best of her.

She finally blurts out, 'What the hell, go ahead.'

He slips both of his hands under her blouse and begins to feel around very slowly and carefully.

He bounces and weighs each breast and he gently pinches each nipple.

He pushes her breasts together and rubs them against each other.

After a couple of minutes of this, she says, 'Okay, okay....How old am I?'

He completes one last squeeze of her breasts, removes his hands, and says, 'Madam, you are 50.'



Stunned and amazed, the woman says, 'That was incredible, how could you tell?'

The old man says, 'Promise you won't get mad?

'I promise I won't' she says.

Attorny's Advice for the New Year

Not A Joke!! Even If you dislike attorneys..You will love them for these tips.
Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED.'

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the 'For' line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address.Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.
I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit cards..

Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have first hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.
But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cardsimmediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6.. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)
7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number.. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit..

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks..

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:
